China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation (Chinese abbreviation: 中设集团；English abbreviation: CMEC), established in 1978, when China started the reform and opening-up policy, is the first large national corporation integrating foreign trade with industry. CMEC is a large global conglomerate with the contracting of the international engineering projects and the export of complete plants as its core business and its main business includes the foreign trade business , R & D work and design as well the international service trade.
CMEC ranked 6th among the top fifty enterprises listed by Ministry of Commerce in China in terms of the business turnover completed in foreign contracting projects of China in 2007; the 9th among the top fifth enterprises in terms of the amount of newly signed contracts for foreign contracting projects of China; CMEC has been listed among the largest 225 contractors in the world by a famous magazine in the United Stated, Engineering News-Record for several consecutive years, and ranked the 64th in 2003.
CMEC is engaged in the business of acting as main contractor of the international engineering projects and the export of complete plants, its business scope covers five continents worldwide. Its business sectors involve: power generation, transmission and transformation, light industry, textiles, food, building materials, communication, railway, harbour, telecommunication, broadcasting and TV, ship-building, metallurgy and mining.
CMEC has created several “No.1 in China”. In the 1980’s, CMEC used the method of seller credit to successfully export the first set of 210MW thermal power plant, forcefully promoting the business development through the method of seller credit. In the 1990’s, the coal fire, gas turbine sets and 320MW thermal power generating units entered the international market for the first time. The contracting project on 4 sets of 30MW hydropower units was won through bidding for the first time in Africa. The float glass plant that can melt 300 tons and 500 tons of glass every day was designed and installed. After the beginning of the new century, 220,000 line program controlled switches were exported overseas for the first time. Large quantities of hi-tech remote-controlled integrated static meter were exported to Europe for the first time. In 2007, power stations with 600MW sub-critical coal-fired generating sets and 600MW sub-critical generating sets were exported to the international market for the first time. At present, CMEC still keeps the honour of “being NO. 1 in the export of power stations made in China”.
During the past years, CMEC has developed steadily its foreign trade business, a trade network covering 120 countries and regions worldwide has already been taken into shape. Large complete plants installed at and used by many large auto-makers, petro-chemical enterprises, metallurgical and mining enterprises, heavy machinery manufacturer and environmental protection sectors in China were imported by CMEC. In addition, CMEC acts as purchaser of machinery and electric complete plants used at large domestic engineering projects as well as products agent of the well-known international manufacturers.
