On May 12, a major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, caused major losses of life and property of several counties and surrounding provinces and cities in the quake zone. China National Machinery＆Equipment Import＆Export Corporation(CMEC) expressed its concerns over the disaster-stricken areas. Cadres and employees of CMEC has actively made donations, amounted to over RMB 4.26 million.
After the earthquake, the Central Government rapidly dispatched the People’s Liberation Army, armed police and professional rescue personnel to the earthquake-stricken areas for disaster relief. The personal safety of the people in the disaster- stricken areas, their life guarantee and reconstruction after disaster have worried the people all over the country. All CMEC members including leaders and employees expressed their deep concerns over the disaster-stricken areas and paid attention every day to the progress of its rescue work. On May 13th, a donation ceremony to the Wenchuan earthquake areas was held at the lobby of CMEC Building. President Xie Biao, Party Secretary Yang Wansheng and other leaders of CMEC took their lead in making donations. Different departments of CMEC and subsidiaries in Beijing participated actively in making donations. The retired cadres and comrades have also participated in making donations.
CMEC employees have made their contributions voluntarily and put their money in the donation box. The donation site was particularly touching. Everyone was immersed in the endless concerns with their compatriots and brothers in the quake zones. The leaders who made business trips outside Beijing asked others to make donations on their behalf. Employees who work abroad or make business trips outside Beijing have contacted the headquarters in Beijing one after another and extended their helping hand.
According to the statistics, CMEC head office donated 3 million RMB yuan to the disaster-stricken areas plus 1 million RMB yuan to the Dongfang Turbine Co. Ltd. by 10:00 a.m on the May 16. All cadres and employees working in the head office and the subsidaries in Beijing donated a total of 263595 RMB yuan. CMEC total amount of donations was 4263595 RMB yuan.
Comrades express that “when disaster struck, help came from all sides” is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. Such donations reflect that with the Party’s leadership and people all over the world as strong supporters, we can surely strengthen the confidence of people in the quake areas. We are willing to jointly combat the disaster with the people in these areas. We believe that through joint effort we can surely reduce losses and reconstruct a better home.
